Diane -- From Paul & Susan Doellinger (band camp). I just learned on Facebook of Larry's passing...and then Googled him and read his obituary, seeing that he died a couple of weeks ago. We are so sorry to hear this sad news. We always enjoyed being with you and Larry at band camps and felt we had so much in common. May God's peace be with you and your children and grandchildren.

Larry has been my best friend and kindred spirit for essentially my entire life. We grew up together in the same neighborhood, were buddies throughout our school years while making beautiful music and doing beautiful mathematics together, then spent six straight years and later two more great years at Stanford together while our same-age sons became good friends, became professors in closely related fields while participating in professional projects together, continued vacationing together, and so much more. (I could tell many affectionate stories in each of these areas.) I have been so blessed to have had such a remarkable and admirable friend as an integral part of my life. I and my family now are grateful that we still have Diane (whose grandparents were next-door neighbors while I was growing up) and the Edison family as beloved members of our extended family.

Larry was a good and supportive friend during my years at PLU. I have so many fond memories of working with him but what bubbles to the top far more than than any specific event is his genuine warm personality. He always was concerned for the person first be it student or faculty. He made his mark in my life and I will always remember him for the kind soul he was.
