L.C. Crowell's Obituary
L.C. Crowell, 77, was called home on July 21, 2022, in Tacoma, WA. He was born on August 11, 1944, in Madison, Mississippi to Louis and Estella Crowell. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 and was stationed at Fort Lewis where he then made Tacoma, Washington his home, met Dolores Owens, and they married on June 11, 1971.
L.C. was a hard worker. He worked at West Coast Groceries for years, held other jobs, and only retired at the JBLM Commissary due health reasons. He rarely missed a day of work to provide for his family. He even walked to the Tacoma Dome from the Hilltop for a work assignment during one of Washington’s biggest snowstorms. He was appreciated and well-liked by his coworkers.
Watching sports and the news, collecting baseball hats, playing pool, going to the horse races, and hanging out with friends were his greatest pastimes. He also was a champion dart player and prided himself on that. He enjoyed western, action, and kung-fu movies. One of his favorite actors was Bruce Lee. He also loved music. You could find him listening to blues, R&B, and jazz. Artists he loved included the great B.B. King, James Brown, Bobby Blue Bland, The Whispers, and George Benson. Lowkey talents to some were he was an excellent cook, exceptional on the barbecue grill, and he could draw.
L.C. was the life of the party and well loved by his family, friends, and people in the community. Even when in the hospital, the nurses would always say how funny he was. He never met a stranger. He was generous and loved to laugh. He had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his estranged wife, Dolores Crowell; two daughters, Denise Crowell and Toni Crowell; son, Louis Crowell; bonus children, Nathasha Staten, George Staten, Harold Staten, Maai Hinton, and Eboni Peterson; bonus grandchildren, a bonus nephew, Philip Ryan, and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Louis Crowell, mother, Estella Crowell, and godson Philip Ryan, Jr.
