I am so sorry for your loss. I have several memories that come to my mind as I think of your wife and mother; her skilled gardening that resulted in a yard full of beautiful flowers that she also shared with others to brighten their homes, her delicious food that did not have any recipes (although I do have her instructions for Korean ribs jotted on a napkin, and she taught me how to make those delicious, addictive, pickled garlic stems). She would scold me for buying store made Kim Bop, because she said it was so easy to make, but unfortunately I did not take the opportunity to learn how to make that.
Su used food to make you feel welcome. In addition to her feeding me when I came to the house, I enjoyed being invited along to your family outings to the all you can eat Asian buffets. I will always remember her feeding me the perfect piece of buttery crab...when I tried to decline it, she smacked my on the side of the face with it, so I had no choice but to be fed by her!
And of course, I have to mention her consistently asking Petrina and I, “Why you not married yet?” She made me feel like part of the family since I got the same treatment as her daughter. I am glad that she was able to see both of us finally get married!
