Ken was a brilliant man. Full of knowledge, compassion and love for all God's creation. I will never forget listining to his stories. It was if I was right there with him experiencing the wonder of land, plants and wild life. He once told me stories of where the grizzlies came together to feast on berries, that it was a place that not many people knew about, and that I now was one of the few who did. He came face to face with a wild mother moose that walked him quietly out of a thicket. His love for the land and nature will always live in my heart as he will. Ken was one of the last REAL mountain men know to this day. There was nothing that he didn't know about and the fact that he could live off of wild edibles and wildlife for as long as he wanted or needed to was something that I have never encountered in my life and probably never will again. I feel so blessed to have known such a great man. I miss you so much Ken.
Ken was one of the best friends and teachers I have ever had. His spirit lives on through the knowledge he shared. Ken changed the way I see the world and he was always there when I needed a friend, always opened his home to me when I needed a place to stay, and was always down to talk crap about whatever we agreed was unjust, unfair, or just annoying. Ken inspired me in so many ways; he was always honest, respectful, kind, and lighthearted. I think heaven for Ken is the apline country and he is there hiking again, identifying plants and collecting samples, tasting wild edibles, and fishing in the clearest alpine lakes hes ever seen. I know Ken's suffereing has ended and he is at peace. I will miss his friendship though. I will never forget my friend Ken, the big jolly buddha, who accepted me and helped me and enriched my life and the lives of so many others. Rest in Peace Ken. I love you!!
One of my best memories of Ken was the day we met. Dan, JJ, Ken and I took a short hike off Blewitt Pass. I really enjoyed listening to Ken talk about the area, hiking and plants. He was very at home in the woods.
My name is Mark Hampton Pugh. I grew up with Kenny and Dan and Rod in Tacoma. I practically lived at Bonnie and Jim's house. They were my second family. Ken also played violin in the Tacoma Youth Symphony and was a fantastic fiddle player (which is an entirely different talent from classical violin). Ken excelled at both, naturally.
Ken was a brilliant and gifted man. Ken was a spiritual man.
Ken was a person who took his relationship with the rest of mankind very seriously and applied himself diligently to the task of improving conditions for everyone's life.
My everlasting love and affection extend to all of Ken's family. May they all know the peace that Ken now does.
