Kathy Marie Welch's Obituary
Kathy was born to Alexander and Mary Gratzer at St. Joseph Hospital on February 26, 1953. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 23, 2019.
Kathy was the surprise of a lifetime being born 14 and 16 years after her older brothers, Pete and Al, who loved and spoiled her. To this day mom is given credit for being the one who introduced Al and Judy when she was only 2 years old! She grew up and remained in Pierce County her entire life. We often joked that getting mom past the Pierce County line was the trip of a lifetime for her. Kathy’s family was her world. She taught her children the value of hard work and giving back to others no matter their circumstances. She was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand. These ideals and beliefs transferred over into her daily life at work. She dedicated 48 years to Puget Sound Energy, starting at the age of 19 as a meter reader eventually landing her role as Administrative Specialist. Dubbed the “mom” of the building she ran with that title and took care of everyone and everything and always with a smile. If you sealed the deal with a hug it was even better. Kathy cherished feeding anyone would eat (even if they weren’t hungry because you didn’t tell her no!) She loved being in the garden, volunteering, going out to eat and cheering her kids and grandkids on from the stands no matter what sport or instrument they played! She was the brightest light in all of our lives and we will miss her terribly. Our mom created the strongest village and showered every heart she touched with love. We cannot thank her and our dad enough, that although divorced, they maintained a loving and amicable friendship to raise us and provide a healthy foundation. (Dave Welch)
Kathy is survived by her children, daughter Jenn (Janet), son Chris (Jen), grandchildren Riley and Alex, brother Al & sister in law Judy. She was preceded in death by her brother Pete & sister in law Jan. She also leaves behind her beloved nephews, nieces and so many amazing friends.
