We were associates and close friends of Karl and Joan as Augustana missionaries in Japan, and were assisted by them at Seattle/Tacoma airport on a return trip from Japan in 1988. In 196 we had a joyful reunion with them at the home of the Hoaglunds, along with the Lundeens. Not having seen either of you since about '52 and being so happy to reconnect with you in the last year, I wish I could visit you, Joan, and get re-acquainted! Your encouragement while in Japan got me into a pen-pal program that was wonderful for a girl from northern Minnesota! How my Mother, (your cousin), would have enjoyed visits with you! I hope we can meet one day. Thanks for the obituary you sent and your kind note. I hope we can meet before long. Love to you and my sympathy in the loss of your best friend. Although it is a time of great sorrow, it is also a time to celebrate a great life. A life that was dedicated to love and service, especially for his family, his country and most importantly, his Lord, our God.
I knew Uncle Karl all my life and benefited from his wise counsel on several occasions, once in time of need and again in time of joy... at our wedding at which he officiated.
