Judy has been a friend for about 20 years. Our friendship deepened over recent years though membership in Tacoma Garden Club and the Aloha Club.
It was when we started talking about her husband Cordy's experience in Micronesia during and after WWII that we really bonded. Stuart and I spent three weeks in Palau where Cordy was engaged in combat on the island of Peleliu, one of the fiercest and deadliest battlefield experiences of the war. A few years ago, Judy compiled a book composed of Cordy's letters home to his parents during the war. She included photos and stories of that time and also the post-war occasions when Cordy and Judy returned to Peleliu and ultimately to Japan to reconcile with former combatants. Our shared experience of that part of the world and its fascinating culture and natural wonders was a source of many pleasurable conversations.
With our mutual friends, the Howards, Stuart and Judy and I enjoyed treating ourselves to dim sum and other delectable comestibles. During those times together, we enjoyed Judy's quick wit, insight, and humor. She was a great friend, and we will miss her.
