While reading a book on Spiritual Formation, the question was asked: “Who equipped you as your spiritual leaders on the path towards Christian maturity?” One of those important people for me was Judy Meyer, who was my principal at St. John’s Lutheran School in Bakersfield, CA. She and I each encountered many challenging situations while working there, and she ALWAYS reacted as Jesus would, and encouraged me to grow in my walk to emulate Him. Later I grieved that I had lost touch with her, as I would have liked to thank her for her influence, her honesty, and her deep love of Her Lord which covered absolutely everything she did. I look forward to being able to thank her in heaven. May God bless each of you who loved her.

Dear Liz and David, as we were thinking what we would like to share, we were reading what others have written. The words laughter, caring and hospitality are expressed frequently. How true that picture is of your mom and dad. As you know we are friends from way back in PNG days. We were most fortunate to reconnect when Mark’s work took us from Georgia to California. We enjoyed many good times together enhanced by the shared history of those earlier days when we were very young. Your mom was so special and touched many. I met Judy in 1982 and was grateful to accept her invitation to do ministry with her at Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Wahiawa. She and Bob were always supportive of me throughout the joyous and difficult times of my life and for that I will always be thankful. Judy was a gracious hostess whenever the occasion to stay with her and Bob arose and made me feel right at home by keeping it simple and not making a fuss over “company”! Laughter was always abundant with her and I so very much enjoyed her newsy and witty Christmas letters. It was a blessing to have visited with her in the spring of 2019. Judy kept me grounded in life and in faith and she was a terrific witness to the true love of Jesus. May God keep you all in His care and may you find comfort in the good memories.

Lots of good memories! Always welcoming and supportive to me during my high school years! I remember the Meyers allowing me to park an old station wagon I had to drive to school in their driveway everyday that year , walking to school to avoid jeers. I remember the Meyers taking my husband and I out on their anniversary for a nice dinner which they said they liked to take other people out to celebrate with them. During high school, she allowed Liz and I to talk on the phone for hours even though we saw each other everyday at school! She was a great role model and as a teenager I always thought she was able to wear many hats with grace ..mom, pastors wife , principal, and many more. Sending hugs and prayers for Liz and David and their familys!

Judy was my dear friend for over 40 years. I have so many memories of time spent with her and Bob and with Judy alone. In 1984 she and I took a whirlwind trip to the East Coast and had a fabulous 5 days even though most of it was spent in airports and on planes. We both agreed at the end that we would do it again in a heartbeat. And I'm so grateful to have spent a wonderful visit with her in September. Liz and David, you know how much I loved your mom and how much I, too, will miss her. May God wrap his arms around you and grant you peace and comfort.
