Joy Glenn Ostrander
Joy (Joe) Ostrander, born January 22, 1916 in Fullerton, NE, was the eighth of William and Minnie Ostrander's ten children. He married LaVerne Wyman on September 1, 1938 and soon moved to Tacoma. They had one daughter, Karen, and two grandchildren, Eric and Wendy. Joy served in the army as a truck driver in World War II. He was employed at Johnson Millwork as a builder, then for 20 years at Darigold as a driver. He was a talented cabinet and furniture craftsman. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed life, spending time with family and friends, dancing, playing cards and games, and being a tease. He kept a beautiful yard and spectacular roses. Joy was preceded in death by his parents, 8 of his brothers and sisters, his wife, LaVerne, of 58 years, and his grandson, Eric. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Anderson of Tacoma, granddaughter, Wendy Anderson of Skagway, AK, brother, Dale Ostrander of Tacoma, and many other relatives and friends. Joy's services will be held Monday, August 17: graveside at 10:30 at Mountain View Cemetery; memorial service at 1:00 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 101 East 38th Street, Tacoma; reception following in the church hall. Donations in his memory can be made to Wright's Park Conservatory/ Tacoma Parks, Franciscan Hospice, or Bethlehem Lutheran Church bell choir.
