My Hero!
Dad did not possess the typical, standard traits we envision in our heros, yet he was one. He fought in two wars, without question, provided a home for his familly and filled it love, rules, laughter and most of all security. He was not flamboyant in his attitude yet he was a leader, by following the attitude: do as I do...not as I say. He was a vibrant man, a loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather, a devoted husband, hard worker, caretaker to many, loyal mason, energetic gardener, true Christian and nurturer of moral and family values and close friendships.
He was blessed with a great sense of humor, a keen mind for learning, and an abundance of love to give to all that grew to know Dad.
I have many wonderful memories of my "Daddy". I remember Mama and him dancing in the living room to Lawrence Welk, watching my brother, Jerry and him work on old cars and build Jerry's hydroplane that he wanted so badly, his laughter...It was always Daddy's responsibility to fry bacon and make the coffee when we went camping. I remember him playing with me in the pool and Sol Duc Hot Springs and throwing me over his shoulder repeatitivly...like I was weightless...his pride and joy whenever he had a grandchild.
He loved to work in the garden and could never understand why people planted only flowers in their gardens and not fruit and vegetables because you could feed your family with that!
He was so proud of his grandsons John and Justin's musical ability and always enjoyed listening to them play...even though some of the music was a bit progressive...and he was so proud of his grandaughters and their beauty and love of life...he always said his great-grandaughter looked just like a doll...not like a little girl.
From all appearances Dad was an ordinary and simple man, but he also taught me with quiet dignity that in simplicity is beauty, elegance and majesty.
My Father, John Fugich Jr. is my hero and to all of us he was a great man. God Bless you Daddy, and may the Lord keep you as you dance with the angels.
