Janice Ann Norden Miller was born on July 18, 1956, in Tacoma, Washington, to Alfred (Al) and Elizabeth (Betty) Norden. She grew up in Tacoma with her older sister, Cheryl and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1974, where she met her future husband, Walter Miller.
Janice went on to attend Washington State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business and forming lifelong friendships with a close-knit group known as the “Coug 5.” After college, she began a distinguished 32-year career as an accountant with Pierce County.
Janice and Walter were engaged in 1978 and married at First Presbyterian Church in September 1979. They settled into their longtime home in North Tacoma in 1986, and in 1989 welcomed their son, Paul Eric Miller.
A woman of deep faith, Janice was a devoted member of Skyline Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years, where she sang in the choir/ praise team and served as a deacon, later attending Fircrest Presbyterian Church.
Janice and Walter shared a love of travel, especially to Yachats on the Oregon Coast, as well as cruises to Alaska and trips throughout the Midwest, East Coast, and Spain. Janice also embraced her Scandinavian heritage, traditions, and holiday baking. She also enjoyed curating many different types of collectibles such as holiday ornaments and lighthouses. Janice took great pride in her gardening, and particularly her rose garden.
Janice brought immense love, warmth, and joy to her family and friends. Even in the face of significant health challenges, her light never dimmed and will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
