James P. Dawson's Obituary
James Patrick Dawson Surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, and many of his closest friends, James Patrick Dawson, affectionately known as Jim, passed away on January 4, 2012. He was born on January 7, 1942 in Montezuma, Georgia. Jim was raised in Pittsburgh, PA and attended Fifth Avenue High School. Jim loved life and enjoyed many activities; most of all, being of service to others. His hobbies included collecting African art, golfing, driving his convertible, listening to jazz, and collecting caps. He traveled to Turkey, Greece, Italy, France, China, Mexico and extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Community service was a focal point in Jim's life. The many organizations to which he devoted his time were the Franciscans, Red Cross, Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges (Pierce College), Urban League, Broadway Center, Tacoma School District, Pleneurethics Board, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his father, Hays Patrick Dawson and brother, William Charles Dawson. He leaves to cherish his memory wife Erma Dawson, daughter Robin Bell (Sam), mother Iris Dawson (Pittsburgh, PA), three brothers, Bob Dawson (Marilyn) (Pittsburgh, PA), Hays Jeffrey Dawson (Kim) (Pittsburgh, PA), and Edward Dawson (Ferita) (Erie, PA), one loving sister, Patricia Dawson (Greensburg, PA), one grandson, Samuel Patrick "Brandon" Bell, sisters-in-law Ruby Smith Dawson (Chicago, IL) Virginia Macklin (Henning, TN), Mary Morgan (Breedsville, MI), Norma Anderson (Hyattsville, MD), and Jeanette Elem (Puyallup, WA), one uncle, Odis Felder (Rochester, NY), The Group--Dixon, Moss, Walton and Keith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Valley Chapel at 12PM Saturday the 14th. Visitation hours Friday January 13th from 3pm to 8pm. Memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA.
