Jim Vance Lyons was my older first cousin. My sisters and I grew up a short distance away. His parents, our beloved Aunt Mary and Uncle Dave, were his parents.we never called him Jim. He was always Vancy to us. He was our older, cool, funny and kind cousin.one night after one of our family parties ( which my sisters and I LOVED ) Vancy and his mother drove some of us downtown to Bell Isle. I was only about 9 or 10 , but I remember it well. We went to see the sun rise. On the way, Vancy taught us a song called “Rickety, Tickety Tin “.
It was funny and gruesome. We loved singing it. We still sing it today and always think of Vancy when we do.
Vancy also sang a great version of I’M JUST A GIRL WHO CANT SAY NO.
He taught us lots of other songs too.
We love him and his sisters and parents very much. They were such a big part of our childhood.
May Vancy rest in peace!’
