To the family of James Lovstrom: What can one say about a friend and comrade in arms who meant a so much to me.I went on a search several years ago to find those family members I served with.We were a special breed in the 101st.Airborne Division. We were assigned to Charlie Co.2nd.Battalion 502nd Infantry Division.
We were stationed at Ft.Campbell, Ky. for over a year before being sent to Vietnam.I found several friends and among them were Jim Lovstrom along with Walt Ostrander.
We all got together for the first time in Reno,Nevada.I was moved with compassion for this man called Lovstrom he remained the same friend as we shared memories together.
We wept together as we shared little memories of our tour together in weapons platoon.
I asked him about the injury to his thumb he received while trying to catch my bowie knife in mid-air as I was teaching them to handle and throw knives efficiently.
He just lauched as he showed me the scar on his thumb.I talked many times on the phone as we tried to stay in touch with one another.I prayed for him many times as I found later he suffered from a form of cancer caused by agent orange.I shared these times with other vets we served with.
After our tour and all we dealt with in carrying the burdens of vietnam we all tried getting along with our lives.I have to admit I lost a lot because of this war,but LIKE OTHERS WE SURVIVED.I met Jesus Christ in 1972 and he changed my life.I shared this with Jim and Walt Ostrander,,Carl Bennett, and Freddie Moore.
I was asked to preach a special message for memorial day services at our local church in Rittman,Ohio. I dedicated this Special Service in Rembrance of "James Lovstrom".
( I Remember Jim.
Marsha I never met you or your children but you are in our prayers. You are one of us and have been for several years. To the sons of Jim Lovstrom: You both are in our prayers and we will remember you as well as your Dad.You see he was a Special Breed.
He was A Screaming Eagle. Airborne All The Way:
God Bless you All.
