Irene Price Hall's Obituary

Our beloved mother, Madear and Great Mother Dear, Irene Price Hall, 98, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2019 at Hallmark Manor Nursing facility. She was born September 29, 1921 in Prentiss, Mississippi to Isaiah and Pinnie Price. She was the fourth of six children. Irene attended Prentiss Institute High School followed by one year at Jackson State University.
Irene married Johnnie N. Hall on October 24, 1941 to which one child, Eva C. Hall Durr, was born. They moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1951 and Irene attended school to become a cosmetologist. Irene and family moved to Jackson, MS in 1959 and in 1966, she and Johnnie moved back to Prentiss, MS.
While living in Prentiss, Irene was very active in her church, Mt Zion Baptist, and the community. She was a member of the senior choir, Deaconess Board and Mission. Young women in the church community gravitated toward Irene and in her quiet way, she mentored them. Irene also became a small business owner, running her own hair salon.
In 1994, Irene moved to Puyallup, WA to be near her daughter and family. She joined St John Baptist Church and was a member of the Mother’s Board. She was well received and loved by members of the church. She quickly became a church mother to many of the young women.
Irene loved outdoors, sitting in the morning sun and gardening. She had huge vegetable gardens in Mississippi and shared her crop with others in the community. In addition to her generosity, Irene lived with grace, dignity and inner strength. One her greatest joys was the night President Obama was elected.
Irene was preceded in her death by her parents, and siblings, Arlena, Nettie, Johnnie Clarence, Willie Lee and Herman.
In addition to her daughter, Eva, she leaves to cherish her memory: Grandchildren: Alfranda (Robin) Durr, Kris (Laurie) Durr, Michelle (Allen) Grant, and Ponce Durr Jr. (Cassandra); Great grandchildren: Tyree, Myles, Robin, Ramari, Kris Jr, Kava, Deon, Tanya (Phoenix), Chelsea, Isaiah, Kamden and Oriah; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Irene Price Hall brought grace to our lives and will live forever in our hearts.
