CSM Hughes Lee Turner
U.S. Army (Ret.)
Hughes Lee Turner, 90, of Tacoma, Washington passed away peacefully November 10, 2017. Born March 22, 1927 in Jefferson, Texas. Hughes is survived by his wife of 66 years, Naoko B. Turner and their three sons; Hughes S. of Chicago, IL, Jonathan (Donna) of Los Angeles, CA and Venice (Samantha) of Renton, WA, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Hughes proudly served in the US Army and was part of the occupation force serving in Tokyo after WWII. This is where he met the love of his life, Naoko (Bessie) and began their journey together over the next 66 years. The family was stationed in San Francisco, Germany, Okinawa, Korea and Tokyo, which provided for many wonderful stories that are shared regularly in the family. He retired from the Army in 1976 with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Thereafter he spent 15 years as a safety and security manager for AAFES at McChord Air Force Base and Fort Lewis.
He is fondly called Ojichama (grandfather in Japanese) by all his grandchildren. He was always a gentleman and brought out the best in everyone who knew him.
A Funeral Service honoring the life of Sergeant Major Hughes Lee Turner will be held 2:00PM Friday, December 8, 2017 in the Aspen Chapel, Celebration of Life Center with a reception to follow in the Oak Room at Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
