Searching online I was saddened to learn that Mr. Turner had passed. He and Bessie were family to me growing up. I loved how he wold greet me with his unmistakeable friendly laugh and he always wanted to know how I was doing. He truly cared. My parents were surprised when I told them if I was ever orphaned, I wanted to get adopted by Hughes and Bessie.
My father was a good man. Could be a stern disciplinarian but he was fair and loving. He laid the foundation for my brothers and I to become the men we are today...responsible, civic minded and loving parents.
