Hazel M Thompson's Obituary
Hazel Thompson died peacefully after a short illness on February 9, 2023 at the age of 104. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 30, 1918 to William and Mary (Walsh) Robinson, the fifth of six children. Hazel grew up in South Strafford, Vermont until the age of 16 when the family moved to St. Helens, Oregon. She graduated from St. Helens High School in 1937 and soon after married Stanley Palmer. They had two sons before he died in WWII.
In 1949 Hazel married Ingemon Thompson and the family moved to Tacoma, Washington in the early 1950’s. Hazel was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She was also an avid member of the Rebekah Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for over 70 years and was still active. She enjoyed knitting and reading in her spare time.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Stanley Palmer Sr, and second husband Ingemon Thompson; by sons: Stanley Palmer Jr. and Douglas Palmer; and by all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by grandchildren: Stanley Palmer III (Merry) and Jill Palmer Johnson (Kenneth); great-grandson: Brandon Palmer; and daughter-in-law: Judith Palmer. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday, March 3th, 1:30 pm at Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilcoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA. Memorial services will follow at 2:30 pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 101 E 38th St, Tacoma, WA. A reception will be held afterwards in the church basement.
