As an FYI, his funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013 at St. Peter CME Church in El Cerrito, Ca at 11am. I had the privilege of working with Harold. Once a year, we hit the road with some others and conducted some data validation in the local areas. He was so much fun. I loved to get him snickering and making side comments. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I hope his retirement was enjoyable, short as it was. I so agree with the other posts...a gentleman, good heart, good worker, good dresser! :-)

My sympathy to Harold's family. Harold was a good friend. We shared the same last name and always greeted each other by Hello, Mr. Phillips/Hello, Mrs. Phillips. It became a running joke for us. Harold was a gentleman who was always full of joy. He was an encouragement to all he met. Harold will truly be missed. Good-bye, Mr. Phillips. See you in Heaven.

Harold was truly a man's man. I probably will never know anyone like him again. He had impeccable manners to the point where he should have been teaching young men how to behave. His dedication to youth was unwavering. I knew Harold for many years. I can honestly say that whenever he got involved in any type of community and volunteer service, he did it with a giving spirit and a sincere heart.

I worked with Harold at Employment Security, though not in the same division, but often in the same building. Over the years we became acquainted though our mutual involvement in safety meetings and trainings, and adopt-a-family fund raising functions. I loved his easy, laid-back way of walking and talking. Our conversations were always enjoyable. I am so sad to hear of his passing, and know such a kind man will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and his co-workers of past. RIP Harold.

He helped me on many occasions with problems by guiding me to find solutions that enabled win-win outcomes.

I am very sorry to hear of Harold's passing. I knew him all his years at the WA Service Corps at Employment Security as someone who did his best to promote AmeriCorps and national service programs in our state. He always had a good word to say and a kind demeanor when we ran into each other. I always appreciated his help during AmeriCorps launches as he was able to hang banners and posters for us that would otherwise require me to use a step ladder. My condolensces to Harold's family.
