Gregory Eugene Royal's Obituary
Gregory Eugene Royal (Greg) was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 6, 1962 to Robert Royal
and the late Jimmie Lee Royal. Greg was the second of three siblings: Lania (Victoria) Royal
Duncanson and Robin Royal. Greg grew up in Tacoma, Washington and he graduated from Foss
High School in Tacoma in 1980.
Greg entered the Air Force in November of 1980. After completing security police technical
school, he served in numerous assignments both in the Continental United States and overseas
as Installation Entry Controller, Security Response Force member, Law Enforcement Patrolman,
police liaison to Korean National police, Criminal Investigator, Law Enforcement Supervisor,
Investigations Supervisor, Unit Logistics Non Commissioned Officer In-Charge (NCOIC),
Information Security NCOIC, Installation Security Superintendent, Installation Law Enforcement
Superintendent, and NCOIC Standards and Evaluations.
He has deployed numerous times overseas to Panama, Italy, Africa, the Pacific, and Europe.
While stationed in Hawaii, he provided protection to the president, vice president, and foreign
heads of states on many occasions. While stationed in the Philippines, he was involved in
several anti-terrorism operations against insurgent forces targeting US personnel and family
members.

Employment in Public Service
Greg worked as a security officer for Clover Park High School from 2001-2008 and the Puyallup
School District, serving Puyallup High School, Rogers High School, Emerald Ridge High School
and Stahl Junior High School from 2009-2022.
On August 4, 2022, he succumbed suddenly to heart failure. Greg was greatly admired by those
who knew him for his humility, kindness, and sense of principles. He was greatly cherished and
loved by his family, friends, and colleagues.
He is an ongoing source of inspiration to those who survive him: His father, Robert Royal; his
daughter, Jennifer Royal Goodenough, son-in-law, John Goodenough, and grandson, John
Goodenough Jr.; his siblings, sister, Lania (Victoria) Royal Duncanson and brother-in-law, Eric
David Duncanson and sister, Robin Royal and his niece, Jasmine Mays; his previous wife,
Kumjoo Royal (Jennifer’s mom) and an extensive list of relatives.
