I had the honor and privilege of working with Greg at Mtn. Home AFB in Idaho. He was a true USAF Security Policeman, but more than that, a true American. Greg was respected by anyone and everyone who he had contact with. I loved working with Greg and we deployed on some Air Base Ground Defense training missions together. In recent years Greg and I re-connected on FaceBook and when I would come to Seattle to visit family he and I would meet up for a meal or a drink while I was in town. My best thoughts and prayers go out to Greg Royal's family, your pain and loss must be huge. RIP in peace defender, we have the watch.

I just heard of Greg’s passing and I am devastated! He was the security guard at my kids’ school and was often out front with the car line so I had many opportunities to say hello to him. He was always so friendly and caring and I always felt so reassured knowing he was there for security in case anything dangerous happened at school. What a loss for our family but obviously even more difficult for yours. Feeling so blessed for the little time we had knowing this amazing man. Sending love to his family.

I met Greg at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii in 1983 after we both arrived from different Korea bases. We both had just left Security Police Town Patrol units, and had Dads that served in the Air Force. Even though we were from different coasts, we hit it off right away. I had the honor of serving with him on several deployments. The military photos are from 1985 Taegu, Korea deployment in our normal spots on the bottom row, and dinner near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Greg was smart as a whip and a true professional. Even though we lost touch for a period, we reconnected in the last few years and able to visit in person and texted just about every day. While we had a long military history together, we mostly just talked about our adult children and grandchildren. The last text and photo he sent me was him and John Jr. sitting on a bench. I already miss my friend greatly!

Greg "Doc" Royal will be forever a beloved USAF Korean National Police Liaison (KNPL) Brother. His bravery during adversity and calm demeanor was a source of strength for all. Greg loved his family, and his daughter was truly at the center. Greg became a proud Grandfather and often shared pictures (txt). John your grandfather is the true example of an American and leaves an outstanding legacy for his family.

P.S we called Greg "Doc" because he was the smartest most well-read NCO in our unit.

Greg was our security guard at Stahl Junior High and a friend to everyone he met. He cared so deeply. It takes a special person to work with junior high students, and Greg worked everyday to make connections and relationships with the kids that needed him most! We will miss him beyond words.
