Gordon L. Sandstrom's Obituary
Gordon “Gordy” L. Sandstrom, 67, passed away surrounded by his family on August 7, 2014 at his home in Lacey, WA. He was born on March 26, 1947 in Tacoma to Stanley and Vilma Sandstrom. He graduated from Stadium High School. Shortly after graduation he was drafted into the Army where he proudly served his country in Vietnam.
He worked at Puget Sound Bank for 22 years followed by another 20 years with Russell Investments/CGI before retiring in 2013.When not working Gordy could be found on the golf course with his many friends and co-workers. He was also active playing basketball and slow pitch for many years. Of all these activities his favorite was attending Husky Football games for over 30 years with his family and best friend, Erick, making some of his most cherished memories. Every summer Gordy and his wife would take two weeks to visit their favorite place in the world, Hawaii. For many years they would find their way to this paradise and explore the islands, while celebrating their love for one another. In his later years you could be sure to find Gordy spending time with the light of his life, his grandson, Dylan. Together they formed a special bond that transcended age, giving him the opportunity to teach Dylan how to grow up, while allowing Gordy to become a child again.
He has truly left a mark on those that are still here, making all of us better and kinder people for having had him in our lives.
Gordy is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Bonnie, son Kyle (Theresa) Sandstrom and his grandson Dylan. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Mountain View Funeral Home, Celebration of Life Center, Aspen Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Olympia Providence Hospice Team, the American Lung Association, or to a charity of your choice.
