I knew and worked with Gordy for over a dozen years. We met as co-workers and he departs as my friend. If I had to describe him in a single word, I'd say Trustworthy. Gordy always had my back, both as a co-worker and as that friend. I relied upon him professionally each and every day, and personally when the situation warranted. He knew his duties and covered them so comprehensively that he made others lives easier. He knew when to handle things himself and warned me when his experience told him that he should. He successfully navigated ever-changing waters in his professional career and all of us who knew him benefited. Yes he was a bit of a prankster but he seldom struck first. He was friendly to the many vendors and visitors he greeted during his office hours and they all enjoyed interacting with him.
I was really hoping to spend more time with Gordy on the golf course but will need to simply cherish the last outing all the more. It is difficult to define a relationship with mere words, yet they are all we have now. I hope Gordy knew how much he meant to us all.
