Goldie Lewis (1926-2017)
Goldie Arvetta Lewis, 91, of Tacoma Washington died December 7th of an aneurism.
That morning she was doing what she loved: playing her piano, fixing lunch, and baking her special healthy cookies with her husband Mel.
About noon she began having the first signs of stroke/aneurism. She was taken by ambulance to Saint Joseph Hospital in Tacoma. Although she was revived in route, and again at the hospital, family members were told there was no hope of eventual recovery. At about 5:30 PM, family members chose to discontinue life support.
Daughter Nancy was able to sing a couple of Goldie’s favorite songs as family members said their last goodbyes. Present with her at her death were her husband Mel, grandson Darrell, and some family friends.
Goldie’s passions included first and foremost being with family, helping in the various churches she’s attended, playing the piano (and the organ several years ago), writing piano music, painting nature scenes, writing poems, and attending Bible studies. She also enjoyed various types of dance steps, instrumental music, playing cards, playing dominos, researching health topics, and walking.
She different types of office related positions such as being a medical assistant, a construction bookkeeper, and an office administrator.
Goldie was preceded in death by her whole family: father Jesse Earl Harvey of Carson City Nevada, mother Sarah Lillian (known as Lillian) Harvey eventually from Tacoma Washington, brother Walter Earl Harvey, and brother Frederick Harold Harvey. She was also preceded in death by their only son James Earl Lewis of Riverside California; and one of two grandsons Eric Martin Brown of Tacoma Washington.
She is survived by husband Melvin James Lewis (sometimes known as Jim), daughter Nancy Ann Schauble and her husband Roger Schauble, and grandson Darrell Matthew Dias.
Goldie is also survived by sister-in-law Eleanor Stella Harvey of Graham Washington; nephew Jessie Earl Harvey and wife Laura of Puyallup Washington, niece Helen Louise Fowler and husband Jeff of Puyallup, nephew Ralph Walter Harvey and wife Lila of Graham Washington, niece Irene Lillian Harvey of Graham, Ty Henry Harvey and Christina Elizondo and her son Zachery of Roy Washington; nephew Duane Harvey and wife of Texas, niece Shirley (Harvey) Bizub of Tennessee; granddaughters Corine Cuppy and husband and their three children, Erin Conigliaro and husband Sal and children Keegan and Emerson of North Carolina.
The memorial service will be January 6, 2 PM, at Skyline Presbyterian Church 6301 Westgate Boulevard, Tacoma Washington. Pastor Robyn Hogue officiating.
Anyone related to Goldie, and invited friends of her daughter Nancy, are asked to gather at 1:30 in the behind-the-sanctuary meeting room.
Reception will follow the service with light refreshments.

The family has requested that flowers not be sent. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Deacon’s fund of Skyline Presbyterian Church.
