Gloria Jean Etsuko (Kimoto) Uncangco was born in Hawaii to Yasaburo (sushi store proprietor/taxi driver and Matsuno (housekeeper). She was the second youngest of 2 boys and 6 girls. She graduated from McKinley High School and the Honolulu Business College.
As a young child, she delighted everyone when she donned a grass skirt and wore a hibiscus in her hair and proceeded to dance the hula when prompted by her dad. She was so adorable like Shirley Temple. Her older siblings had taught her well!
New Years day at the Kimotos was quite an event! The family would gather and party all day long eating special Japanese delicacies.
Gloria's love the outdoors(ocean) was instilled by her mom who took her torching(night net fishing) and catching octopus at night. Her love for cooking was instilled by her dad who taught her to make sushi. He also shared his love for watching Japanese cinema(weekly trips to the theaters).
Her culinary skills were impeccable! She made the best sushi, lomi lomi salmon, noodles, taegu, and char sui (to name a few dishes)! Later in life, she loved to watched cooking shows online and shared recipes she had learned.
Gloria's legacy will continue in her 2 fine sons/daughter in laws and all other survivors. Celebrate her life at gatherings with good food, love, music, happiness, and fun.
She was the most kindest, giving, unselfish, caring, and loving person and I wholeheartedly miss her!
Gloria, you are in a much better place. May you have much happiness with Rick at your side.
I will always remember you ,sis, and all the recent good times in Washington ,Oregon, Nevada, and Hawaii.
Aloha Oe, till we meet again...
With all my love,
Janice
