Gloria Jean Simmons' Obituary
Gloria Jean Simmons was born on August 21, 1950 in Shreveport, Louisiana at Barksdale Air Force Base. After a long struggle with lung cancer, she has gone to be with her Lord on August 18, 2007. She was preceded in death by her father Bert (March 2006) and her loving mother Betty (December 2003) Hughes, for whom she was the primary care person during their final years battling cancer. Gloria is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Richard A Simmons, her son Joseph J Drakos and his wife Hiroko of Japan, her daughters Lorelei M Pierce and her husband Charles Allen of North Carolina, Teresa L Simmons of Tacoma, WA., and her two sisters Lucy Miller (Don) and Patricia Hughes (Trish). Gloria is also survived by six grandchildren, Kayla Tillman, A.J., and Colten Pierce; Maileena Kotoko, Caine Toma and Sasha Daion Drakos. Gloria was an amazing woman who always thought of others before herself. She spent 30 years working in collections with grace and dignity. She was a wonderful wife and friend, an exceptional mother and she will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Gloria always had a special place in her heart for children in need and requested that in lieu of flowers, donation be given in her name to ,"Operation Smile," (www.operationsmile.org); ,"St Jude,'s Children,'s Hospital," (www.stjude.org) and Franciscan Hospice (www.fhshealth.org). A special ,"Celebration of Life," service will be held at First Baptist Church of Lakewood 5400 112th St. S.W. on August 22, 2007 at 3:00 PM. The family would like to thank all the special friends and extended family that have been with us through this difficult journey.
