Gladys I Strand's Obituary
Gladys Strand, 99, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2021, in Tacoma, WA. She was born in here in 1922, to Mary Bell and George Evans.
Gladys graduated from Lincoln High School before attending secretarial school. She later worked for many years as a secretary at the Tacoma Police Department and the Tacoma School District.
In 1944 Gladys married Robert (Bob) Strand, and they shared 61 wonderful years together. The family enjoyed many summer days on Puget Sound in the SueAnnLou, a boat named after their three daughters.
After retirement, Gladys took up golfing – a sport she enjoyed until she was 88 years old. She was active with women's golfing groups, and made many friends. She and her husband also spent many summers fishing in Canada and Alaska, and many winters in the Southern California sunshine.
An avid gardener, and talented home cook, Gladys also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Gladys lived for over 65 years at the home her husband built in the 50s.
She is survived by her three daughters: Susan Orkney (Malcolm), Carol Herstad (Wayne), Christy Strand (Mike Smith), 5grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, her devoted niece Liz Strand, and other dear nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Don Evans, and her husband Robert Strand.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who provided such kind and loving care in Gladys’ later years.
Any memorial gifts can be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Tacoma, Washington, where Gladys was a member for over 70 years.
