Gerald L. Beitz's Obituary
Gerald L. Beitz December 22, 1928 - January 20, 2008 Jerry was born in Tacoma, Washington on December 22, 1928. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his daughter's home in Hillsboro, Oregon. Jerry grew up in Puyallup with his parents Rudy and Vivian Beitz, and later his step-mother Bessie Beitz. A 1947 graduate of Puyallup High School, he looked forward to seeing his classmates at the annual summer picnic. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves. In 1960, Jerry founded Tempo Auto Glass and Upholstery with his long-time friend Don Septon. Tempo Glass continued to grow and expand throughout the Tacoma area, until Jerry retired to spend time with family and friends and purchased a home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he could escape from the cold Tacoma winters. He loved walking in the Arizona sunshine to have coffee with his friends at the bagel shop, and entertaining Tacoma friends who came to Scottsdale to visit. He also made frequent trips to his Tacoma home to visit friends and family. He was a lifetime member of the Lakewood Elks, and loved meeting his buddies for breakfast every morning when he was in Tacoma. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Scottish Rite Freemasonry, Eagles Lodge, American Legion, Afifi Shriners' Temple, Tacoma Athletic Commission, and Tacoma Yacht Club. Jerry is survived by his daughters Julie (Scott) Ferguson, Hillsboro, Oregon; Jana (Mark) Sorenson, Gresham, Oregon; Jodie (Matt) Schriner, Austin, Texas; stepsons David (Amy) Cruver, Eatonville, Washington; Guy (Gail) Hemley, Puyallup, Washington; grandchildren Kelsey and Matt Ferguson, Aaron and Halli Hemley, Keaton and Corbett Cruver, a sister, Lorna Shaw, and his wife Jeanene Beitz of Scottsdale, AZ.
