Georgiana Isbell-Graham-Dunn Wilson-Battle's Obituary
“GEORGE”
Georgiana Isbell-Graham-Dunn-Wilson-Battle passed away comfortably at her home in Lakewood on Jan. 20th after a lengthy battle with cancer.
George was born Sept. 20, 1939, in Long Beach, Calif., to Lt. Commander Harold Isbell and Mary Glombinski Isbell. She was raised in South Tacoma, graduated from Lincoln High School and was featured in the May 1957 issue of “Seventeen Magazine” as “the Girl with the American Look”. She worked for Forman & Clark and Blocks Furniture before teaching the Credit Specialist program at Clover Park Technical College where she touched the lives of many students and staff. She was past president of Credit Woman International, past president of the Pierce County Chapter, served on the board the International Credit Association, served as treasurer and investment manager of the Friends of Lakewood Library, was appointed by Governor Gary Locke to the State Board for Credit and Collections, and was past president of the Clover Park Vocational Association. Since her retirement from CPTC in 2003 she was a Daffodilian and a chaperone at the Daffodil Festival, a patron of Curran Apple Orchard, volunteered at Tall Ships, where she was named “Queen of Morale”, and until recently at LeMay Auto Museum.
There will never be another George! She was one of a kind….. an eccentric, fun-loving woman who never met a stranger! She had a fantastic sense of humor and loved to make people laugh, give unexpected gifts, share recipes (even though she didn’t cook), travel, walk the beach, collect shells and sea glass, garden, shop, and “do” lunch and happy-hours where the locals hung out. She was an avid reader and could converse on nearly any subject. She was a master at giving advice, offering remedies, and was adamantly “always right”. She loved animals; often leaving reminder notes to people who left their dogs in their cars on warm days. She adored cats and fed the birds every day. She will be long remembered for her love of glitz, glitter, bling, partying, and working the crowd. According to George everything was “stunning” including her license plate frame which read: “I’d rather be at the Lakewood Terrace”.
George is survived by son, Lane Caesare “Chez” Wilson, brother Harold John “Brother” Isbell, brother-in-law James E. James, nieces and nephews, Barbara
Isbell, Merle Hoyt, Harold and Jeannie Schnieder, William “Woody” Nicely, Donald & Phuong Nicely, Daniel James, her constant feline companion, Bart, and literally hundreds of friends. She is predeceased by husband, Michael Battle, sisters Betty “Charlie” James, Lena Rose “Pete” Nicely Dodson and Helen Pollen.
No services are planned but a reception will be held on Sat., Feb. 7 at 4 pm at the Lakewood Elks, 6313 75th St. W., in Lakewood.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to Tacoma Pierce County Humane Society, 2608 Center St. Tacoma, WA 98409. A special thank you to Min-Chun Chen, MD, Elaine McDaneld, Kristin Briejer, MD, Dawn Oberhansli and all the wonderful people at MultiCare Hospice.
Aloha, Baby Girl!
