George Wallace Cathcart's Obituary
Retired MSgt George Wallace Cathcart was born on December 5, 1914 in Distant, Pennslyvania. He served his beloved country during World War II (1942-1945) with the 381st Bomb Group, as a B-17 Crew Chief. He continued his military career with the U.S. Air Force until retiring in 1966.
He continued to serve, in a different capacity, as a long time volunteer at the American Lake V.A. Hospital where along with his wife, Magdalena they created a fishing program for the resident veterans of the Veteran's Hospital. One of his greatest joys was to attend a yearly reunion with the 381st Bomb Group of WWII. A magnificent group of unsung heroes!
George was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and woodsman. He also enjoyed exploring the world with his wife of 58 years, Magdalena. George was active with American Legion, V.F.W., Enlisted Association, Museum of Flight, Air Force Memorial Foundation, Trout Unlimited and Washington Wildlife and Recreation.
George is survived by his wife Magdalena; son Gottfried (Sharon) Cathcart; daughters Susan (Heinz Lemke) Robinson and Sandra (Edwin) Cassidy; granddaughters Andee Robinson and Lisa (Jerry) Meiers; grandson Kevin (Rita) Cassidy; great-grandson Jesse Meiers and Molly (The Beagle).
The family wishes to sincerely thank the wonderful staff of Madigan Army Medical Center, Alaska Gardens, Pioneer Place and Franciscan Hospice.
Funeral services will be held 11am, Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Mountain View Funeral Home's Garden Chapel.
