George L. Stahl's Obituary
George L. Stahl, USN Ret
Loving and devoted husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend, George passed away August 8, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. His unconditional love of family, sense of humor, duty to country, friendship, willingness to help others and his trademark smile will be deeply missed. Born December 7, 1933, to Jack and Violet Stahl in Los Angeles, CA, George enlisted in the US Navy in 1952 to serve his country. A veteran of the Korean War, he relocated to Tacoma in 1955 where he met his future bride Joan and began his family while learning the carpentry trade. George honed his "can do" spirit with the Navy Reserves as a Seabee and retired a chief petty officer with Mobile Construction Battalion 18 in 1982. His passion in life was helping others and carpentry. He loved to fiddle around, build and fix things. If he couldn't build it or fix it, he knew someone who could. George volunteered his talents and service for many friends, family and various organizations throughout his life. He was a journeyman carpenter with Union Local 470 for over 45 years and served as a board member in retirement. He enjoyed photography, coin collecting, model building, fishing, and motorcycle riding. George leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Joan; son, John (Anna) Stahl; daughters, Diane (Brian) Lynch and Cynthia Teebken; grandsons, Jonathon and Andrew Stahl, Brandon and Patrick Lynch; granddaughters, Jessica and Rebecca Teebken; mother-in-law, Signe Wenness; sister-in-law, Donna (Rick) Cratsenburg; nephew, Rick Jr.; and niece, Heidi Cratsenburg. From California survivors include brothers, Lawrence Stahl, Jerry, Jimmy and Bob Larimore, and George McCarthy. Surviving sisters include Arlene Larimore, Margie, Violet and Patricia McCarthy along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, Thursday, August 14, at 10:00 am in the Aspen Chapel at the Celebration of Life Center with reception to follow. Graveside services with military honors provided by the US Navy will be at 2:00 pm at Tahoma National Cemetery located in Kent, WA.
Our deepest gratitude for the compassion and care provided by the staff at Tacoma General, St. Joseph's, Franciscan Hospice and especially University Place Care Center. In addition to or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to the American Cancer Society.
