Gene R Lowery's Obituary
Gene Lowery 86, of Lakewood passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2014. Born on September 7th, 1927 in Muncie, Indiana, Gene was retired MSGT from the US Air Force. Gene is survived by his daughter and Son-in-law Marsha Ann and Stephen Spark and his son Richard Lee Lowery. He is preceded in death by his oldest son Martin Ross Lowery. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jason Ross (Erika) Lowery and their children Emma and Jake; Jessika Karn Lowery and her children Mikaiah, Zaabryel, and Malachi; Jesse Raymond (Stephanie) Lowery and their children Gracie, Jace and Judah; Matthew Gene (Emily) Lowery and their daughter Adeline; Katherine Camilla Lowery; Hannah (Anthony) Santora and their children Dominic and Remo, Aaron (Betsy) Sparks. Grandpa also became a great, great grandfather to Bryelle Emrie Lowery. He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters. Gene started working at a very early age on the riverboats on the Mississippi River later joining the Merchant Marines, the Army Air Corp and eventually enlisting in the USAF at the age of 18. He retired with his family to Washington State and took a job with Boeing. In 1975 he graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a double degree all the while fighting to save his eyesight. Gene then became active as a committee member at the Harborstone Credit Union and eventually retiring as a Board of Director Emeritus. Not one to be idle, he then became active with Blinded Veterans Association serving as President and later Treasurer of the organization. He worked tirelessly to make veterans aware of the aid and assistance available to them especially the Blind Rehabilitation Center at American Lake Veterans Hospital. Gene was a lifetime member of the Masons, Shriners and Scottish Rite. Eventually he became totally blind but never failed to keep the utmost positive attitude and was ever thankful for all the blessings in his life. Always the jokester, he kept us smiling and laughing and taught us all to be thankful for what we had because there was always someone worse than you.
