Ervin Henry MarlowAbsent From the Body, Present With the LordErv was born Sept. 9, 1917 in Veblen, South Dakota. After graduation in 1937 from Veblen High School he moved to Hoquiam, WA. He married Alice Geraldine Walden July 30, 1939. In 1945 they moved to Tacoma, WA. where he was owner of MurphyÂ's Bakery from 1945 to 1970. After retiring from the bakery, he went to work for College Golf Course at Pacific Lutheran University, where he was manager from 1972 to 1983. He retired again in 1983 and became a chaplain at Tacoma Terrace Nursing Home where he served as a volunteer until October, 2002. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church from 1945 to 1998. He attended and became a member of Life Center, and then transferred his membership to Yelm Prairie Christian Center. Ervin served the church as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, youth group leader, Church Board Member, and Elder. His service to the community included; coaching baseball for the downtown BoyÂ's Club, President of the Tacoma Golf Association, board member of the Lutheran Welfare Society and the Good Samaritan Hospital, a member of the Northwest Nursing Home Ministries, and of the Tacoma MenÂ's Interdenominational Prayer Breakfast. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jerry, his eldest son, Ervin Jr., and two brothers, Jim and Bill. He is survived by a daughter Deanna (William) Kraiger, Mesa, AZ., two sons, Walden (Patricia), Tacoma, WA., and Wade (Grace), Orange, CA., eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his three sisters, Marian Rowe, Puyallup, WA., Elsie Tucker, Lebanon, OR., and Ellen Herbstritt, Orting, WA. His life was a blessing to all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Nursing Home Ministries, Inc. Tacoma Branch, P.O. Box 22246, Portland, OR. 97269-2246. Viewing will be on Monday, November 18, 2002 from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Mt. View Funeral Home in Tacoma. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Yelm Prairie Christian Center, 501 103rd Ave. N.E. Yelm, WA.
