Erna Pauline Harmier Urich's Obituary
ERNA PAULINE HARMIER URICH
Born on a hop farm by Willows Pond on South Hill of Puyallup on October 21, 1910 to Marie Pauline Arndt Engfer and Karl Frederick Engfer. She was the youngest girl of the family of 11 children.
The family moved to Orting in 1918 and raised their children on the Engfer farm. In 1922 the family moved into the city of Orting after a tragic accident that left her father unable to work the farm. The oldest son John remained on the farm.
She finished the 8th grade of schooling, as did all the children, and went to work in the bus station, then later worked for Tony Cammerano at the cheese factory. She worked 5 days a week for $50 a month.
In 1930 she married Norman Jasmer and moved to National. They had two sons, Fred and Frank. She worked in a sawmill in Ashford after her divorce in 1944, and later moved back to Orting to care for her mother and her brother John's children.
In 1947 she moved to Tacoma and married Walter Harmier. Together they started a new business, Center Electric. In 1960 they bought an Airstream trailer and joined the Wally Byam Caravan Club. They moved to Olympia to live at the Washington Land Yacht Harbor. They had a 21 year wonderful marriage before he passed away in 1970 in Hemet, California.
In 1976 she met and married John Urich. They traveled the world together and made many wonderful memories. John passed away in 1999.
She was an avid fundraiser for Ladies Oriental Shrine making pillows, and dressing many dolls to sell. Her favorite charity was the Unfunded Equipment Fund.
She spent many winters in Arizona working at a school for Navajo children. She had many stories of driving children to doctor's appointments, and making them lots of good food.
Erna spent her last year living at Emeritus-Courtyard at the Willows, and passed away October 14, 2009.
