Elvin Thomas Nelson's Obituary
On Wednesday, May 13, 2021, Elvin Thomas Nelson, passed away at the age of 76. Elvin Thomas Nelson was born April 8, 1945 in Tacoma, WA to June I. Hammond (Froistad) and John H. Nelson. He grew up in Tacoma, WA, and raised by mother and step-father Robert (Bob) Hammond. He graduated from Mt. Tahoma High School in 1964. After high school he joined the Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He later received his Bachelor’s degree in Business from Pacific Lutheran University. He had 2 sons from his first marriage, Craig Nelson and Wayne Nelson. He met Mary C. Nelson (Chitty) and they got married October 25, 1975. They settled in Olympia, WA. Together, they had one daughter, Kristina Leopold (Nelson). He worked as a state employee for many years and retired in 1995. After he retired from the state he worked as a debt and bankruptcy counselor.
During his life, Elvin enjoyed playing golf, gardening, camping, going on cruises with his wife, spending time with his grandchildren. telling jokes and drinking coffee. He was a Seahawks fan and never missed a game. He loved to share stories from his past. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, his kind and compassionate spirit.
Elvin was preceded in death by his father, John, his mother, June, his step-father Robert (Bob), his sons Craig and Wayne along with many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Kristina, his grandchildren Maddison, Charlotte and Matthew (Junior), his brother Alan, his cousins Charlene and Norma, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and his nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Mountain View Funeral Home at 1 o’clock p.m. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation in memory of Elvin Thomas Nelson.
