Our family will dearly miss Elvin.
As a brother in law and a great friend Elvin was always ready for a good time or adventure.
Whether it be camping or a good conversation over a cup of coffee, a garage sale or making apple sauce in the fall, flying a kite or water skiing, Thanksgiving dinners or a picnic, he was always ready to share time with family and friends.
We so enjoyed listening to his stories of his time in the navy. Elvin was a very proud vetran.
Our hearts are heavy, yet so full of the lasting memories we made together.
We love you Elvin.

Elvin was a valued member of our family. He was a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also the family historian, he could remember events. places, dates and names like no one else. I always enjoyed having conversations with him, his stories of his time in the navy, or discussions on current events and politics will be missed. He was a kind soul and his passing has left a sadness in our hearts. Rest in peace Elvin.

Elvin and I were co-workers at DSHS Office of Financial Recovery from the late 1970's to mid 1990's. Most of all Elvin was a very decent man - one of few around.
He was a good father. Usually Elvin moved at a dead slow pace. He sat relaxed with his feet up on his desk, his chair tilted back with his hands folded behind his head. We all too often after his phone rang heard a thud, exclamation -- Elvin was moving at the speed of light. Something had happened to Wayne (none of us had any idea just how strong & brave that boy was). He was overjoyed when Kristina arrived. Proud and beaming over her accomplishments at Black Hills High School, having a career and becoming a mother.
A caring husband to Mary over her operations and unfortunate accident down an escalator. Grateful for her hard work and also for their children and grandchildren.
His concern for his family extended to others. In the Fall of 1980 he and Mary invited my sister, her baby and me to have Thanksgiving Dinner with them if I would show him how to make the gravy. I guess he knew that we weren't doing anything for that day after having just buried our mother.
On the lighter side Elvin had some pretty good laughs. He and I went on a mission to serve paperwork on a former patient of Western State Hospital that lived near Woodland
Park. We found the house & parked a 1/4th block away on the street. Elvin stayed with the car & I went to the front door. A 2 yr old opened the door and I asked for his Mommy-- next thing I was running down the sidewalk as a woman was after me with a broom trying to hit me over the head. Elvin was laughing so hard he couldn't get the car door open for me.
Others will remember some of the picnics at Scott Lake -- something about the shelter, fire & a beer keg--best not to go into detail on that one. We all got surprised at one of them on how well Elvin did water skiing!
