Elizabeth (Betty) Blanche Linstad died in her home March 24, 2006 at age 86. Elizabeth was born Oct. 8, 1919 in Hartford, CT. She graduated from the Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing, New London, Connecticut in 1940. Joining the U Read Obituary

We recall your Mother with fond memories. People in Beachcrest told us of her passing. She lived a full life and she passed in the company of her loved ones in a place she loved. I hope we do so well.

Dear Richard, Thomas, Loretta and Janet,
I am Dorothy Blaschik's daughter. I believe I met Betty only once, probably around 1988 or so, one summer when Betty was visiting back in East Haddam with Rick, and both came over with Helen Hoffman to my grandmother's house in East Haddam. When I met Rick I had finally found someone else from the family with my same hair coloring (light, strawberry blond) and almost invisible eyebrows!!
I've recently learned about Betty's experiences during WWII as an army nurse through her email correspondences to my mom. I'm working on a comprehensive early family history DVD show that will go into those members on both sides of my family who served in the military during WWI, WWII, Korea and recently, Afghanistan. It will be an honor for me to include Betty's war time experiences in the DVD show. From the way that Betty wrote in her emails to my mom about some of her experiences as an army nurse, I can sense what a dedicated and fine lady she must have been.

I first met Betty when she made a trip back to visit with family in Connecticut after Howard's death. My parents were always very fond of Betty and would look forward to these visits. As their health began to fail, Betty would call me to inquire about them. Soon be began to exchange letters and later, thanks to e-mail, we began to correspond more frequently and share information about our families - our gardens - and yes e-mail jokes as well. I knew I had found a friend and looked forward to her messages. I particularly value information which she recently shared with me about her years as an Army nurse and of how she first met Howard. These letters will now become an important part of the history of our family that my daughter is now compiling.
I wish I could personally be with you this Saturday - but Rick, Tom, Loretta and Janet - I want you to know that I will be with you in thought and prayer - and I will be sending a very special last e-mail to Betty who is now safely in heaven with her beloved Howard.##imported-begin##Dot Blaschik DeGiorgi##imported-end##
I have fond memories of Betty, being neighbors for 10 years. We had many coffees together talking about our gardening and re-doing furniture - your mom, Doris, and I. Remember when we brought a table home on the top of the car, and forgetting it was up there, I drove straight into our garage? That's when we didn't lock the front door or pull down the garage door! Betty was our back door neighbor. I am writing for my mom and dad as well as myself (Vanette.) Mom and dad are in AZ. and will be saddened to learn of Betty's death. I will always remember the chickens and how my sister and I took care of them when you were on vacation. We thought that was so cool.
