I remember so well the many times you came to our home on "L" street to bring special things for Marianne and me. We delighted in your thoughtfulness. Also, recall the times you helped to butcher a deer Dad had shot and how you and Mom made peppernuts. You were our mother's dearest friend and like a second mother to Marianne and me. We will always be greatful for your care of Mother when her health was failing.
May God keep you forever in his strong hands.

My mother and Tante Frieda were friends since Leo and I were born one day apart and they shared a room for more than a week at Tacoma General Hospital. Over the years, they talked German, shared my father's ducks and deer from hunting, and celebrated the accomplishments of children and later grandchildren. When my mother couldn't manage on her own, Frieda took her in and fed her good German food and positive vibes until she was able to be independent again. My mother's 80th birthday party was held at her home. When Mutti was in a nursing home, Frieda visited and made sure that everything was as it should be and let them know what needed to be done in no uncertain terms. No one ever had a better friend. You meant so much to so many. You are the most inspirational woman I know. Your strength, your generosity, your wisdom and hard work ethic all make me feel honored to be a part of you. I will always cherish the memories I have of you and grandpa, and sleepovers at your house and of course Christmas Eve! I just wish I could get as organized as you always were! How did you manage it all and still find time for EVERYONE ELSE? You have given us all a legacy to live up to. I will always remember your fabulous gardens and beautiful home filled with smells of your wonderful german cooking. I am happy that you are in heaven with grandpa now and watching over all of us. Omi - I love you. My memories of you include you taking us with you to visit everyone. You were always thinking of others. Working in your backyard with you. Sitting and watching Shirley Temple on Sundays when we would stay with you. The slippers you knitted for me and everyone else every Christmas. Just watching the fireplace that crackled and kept the whole house so warm. I was blessed to have Omi in my life. There are many memories and some of the best were just having her at the house, watching basketball, reading, in the summer sitting on the deck in the sun. I have so many great memories of Omi from when I was little til now. Going and staying for a whole week with Grandpa and Omi, scrabbled eggs, spilt milk, visiting Omi's German friends, Omi calling Grandpa a dumeassel. Such fun, such memories. As we got older, she was always there for all her grandkids and great-grandkids. Christmas Eve, Wiener schnitzel, Silent Night, Christmas Carols, new P J' and slippers. Family all together, what fun and noise.
