Charlie Funk

Birth date: Dec 26, 1932 Death date: Jun 29, 2019
Edward Charles Westwood passed away on June 29, 2019 at age 85. He was able to spend the last few weeks in the comfort of his childhood home on Spanaway Lake with his family and friends close by. He was born in Pullman, Washington Read Obituary
I came across a set of plans the other that Ed drew back in 1970 that modeled a homebuilt aircraft, the RV-6. That was another lifetime, a miserable marriage, and three cities ago. My thought was to build another. In the bottom right was Ed's address on S. 173rd St. in Spanaway to contact him for a vacuum formed set of plastic parts for the model. I think the parts sold for maybe three dollars fifty years ago.
I Googled his name and Spanaway and sadly came across his obituary. My first thought was "this can't be correct. He wasn't that old." And then I realized it had been fifty years and I was "that old".
Ed contributed to many happy hours for a lot more people than he ever knew. He was a good model designer.
So very sorry to learn of Ed's passing. I met Ed at Arnold AFB back in 1966, when he was assigned the Air Force Engine Test Facility. Ed worked to assist me and the test programs I was working on at the time and became a great friend. Later, with the help of one Colonel and one General, he was assigned to the F-15 program at Wright Patt. I remember well the many good times we had in Dayton and in later years, my wife and I spent some time on the Puget Sound with Ed. We kept in touch for many years and I had talked to Ed back in May - June. In July and later, email and phone calls went unanswered so I began a search and today found his obituary. My wife and I are greatly saddened by this discovery. We both grew to know Ed very well and knew him to be a great person and a loving father of his children. WE also knew Iris briefly and were well familiar of the care Ed took of Iris as her health failed. Last, we knew well of Ed's love of airplanes and enjoyed the many pictures and videos of the Lake at Spanaway. We did visit him there several times over the years and always thought it a lovely place. We and many others who knew him, will miss him very much. My wife and I send our deepest sympathy to the Westwood family...
