Edward E. Freitas' Obituary
Edward Freitas (1930 — 2014) went to be with his Lord on October 24, 2014. Ed was born in Anacortes, Washington, to Herman Freitas and Alice (Sutton) Freitas on June 8, 1930. Ed's dad was in the Coast Guard so they lived in various coastal towns in Washington. Ed spent his grade school years in Port Angeles. The family moved to Tacoma in 1940 and Ed attended school there through eleventh grade. He graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1949. Ed married Shirley Sayre in Tacoma in 1952. He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until transferring to BUSHIPS in Washington, D.C. Ed and Shirley moved with their family to Virginia in 1966. Ed worked at BUSHIPS until his retirement in 1985, after 35 years of service. During his years in Virginia, Ed and Shirley were active in their church. Ed was involved in bible teaching, visiting the sick and offering his friendship to any visitors and members of the church he attended. He conducted a bible study at work and was an encourager to others. They spent 29 years in Virginia and fell in love with the people they met and became close friends with, especially their church family. Ed and Shirley belonged to a Christian motorcycle club and spent many happy hours traveling the countryside. One summer they took a 7,000 mile trip enjoying God's beautiful creation. After retiring, Ed and Shirley returned home and settled in Allyn, Washington, where they lived for almost 20 years. While living in Allyn, Ed enjoyed fishing, clam digging, and camping with his close friends. He is survived by his wife Shirley; sons, Lynn (and wife Pat); Leslie (and wife Mary); and daughter, Jill Case (and husband John); eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
