Donald Williams' Obituary
Donald J. “Donnie” “DJ” Williams
Donald drew his first breath at St. Joseph Hospital on April 4, 1952 and released his last at home December 16, 2018. He joins his parents, Henry J. and Lucille E. Williams, in the hereafter, as well as favorite aunts and uncles, in-laws and friends.
He thrived growing up in a tightly knit and loving neighborhood with family and friends whom he relished coming home to throughout his life in the military. He was active into his fifties in exploring the outdoors, basketball, baseball, martial arts, racquet ball and golf. Always a playful “people person,” DJ enjoyed the company of men, women and young children, especially babies. Music from many genres brought him joy and solace. Barbecuing was a passion for him and everyone looked forward to his pork ribs.
He retired as a Master Sergeant after 22 years in the United States Air Force. He served in Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, Greece, and multiple Stateside bases. He was trained in two careers in the Air Force – signal intelligence and social actions, which led to jobs in chemical dependency treatment centers after retirement. While in the military he was active as a third degree mason of The Prince Hall Grand Lodge.
He was loved dearly by his wife, Barbara, and his children, Angela R. Ferguson (Steve), Devin J. Williams (Ty) and Errin M. Williams; his sisters, Janet Cheryl Williams and Sharon-Anne Emmons, and brother, Gary S. Williams. He will be missed by his stepchildren Don C. Barenz (Lauren) and Mary E. Hampton (Tim) and granddaughter Rebecca D. Geiser. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery beside his mother and father.
Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
