Donald Nicholas' Obituary
On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, Donald (Nick) Nicholas passed away after a valiant battle with cancer at the age of 66. He is now at peace in heaven and will be missed immensely by all who love him. He was a loving father of three children, Austin, Alexander, and Anna, a grandfather of Wyatt Nicholas, and former spouse to Debora Bingham. Nick was born on August 23, 1954 in Tacoma, WA to Francis (Fran Giangrasso) and Donald Nicholas and was also raised by his loving stepfather, Anthony (Tony) Giangrasso.
In his early 20’s he started his successful business, Nick’s Custom Trim, in the automotive detailing industry, which reflected his artistic ability, craftsmanship, and enterprising personality. His love for music began with jazz and grew to an endless passion for blues, as he became the blues man we all know him to be, “Nicky Ray.” During his funk and disco days, he met Debora Bingham. They wed on October 25, 1981 and created a beautiful life for their three children.
Nick had many interests including cars, golfing, skiing, and performing with his bands as a guitarist and vocalist. He was admired for mastering all his hobbies and interests as a self-taught maverick. His outgoing and warm personality was his defining characteristic. He could make a friend out of anyone.
Nick was preceded in death by his fathers, Donald and Tony, and his sister, Chris Plueger. He is survived by his mother, Fran, his former wife, Debora, his three children, Austin, Alexander and Anna, his grandson, Wyatt, his sister Jeana Murphy, his brothers-in-law, Bob Murphy and Richard Plueger, and his nephews, Mitchell and Matthew Plueger, and Bobby and Patrick Murphy.
A private service will be held, but friends and family can leave a warm comment or fond memory on the virtual Tribute Wall. In lieu of flowers, please dedicate a donation to American Cancer Society in his name.
