Donald K. Medley's Obituary
Don, a Tacoma native, passed away in the early morning hours of September 2, 2016 at the age of 80. Don was born at Tacoma General Hospital to Merle and Don Medley April 13, 1936, the first of two sons.
Don graduated from Stadium High School in 1954. He and his brother both joined their Dad in business at United Auto Wrecking located at 96th and South Tacoma Way for 31 years. Don enjoyed the wrecking business and especially (salvage) auction days. He'd say "I wish everyday was auction day!" He truly thrived on the people and the deals. Don's passion for a great car (aka fast) and the open road was lifelong; he made his last road trip in late July.
In December of 1958 Don married Janet Moseid. Together they raised three children and shared nearly 58 years of loving marriage. In their retirement they enjoyed 30 years of being snowbirds; enjoying desert life and warmth.
Don is survived by his wife Janet, daughter Kathy Maxey (Jerry), son Jason Medley (Chris), 5 grandchildren, Joey Schaefer, Maizy Medley, Emma Maxey, Darby Medley, Riley Medley, and brother Mike Medley. Don was predeceased by son Mark Medley in 1982.
A funeral service will be held at the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park on Friday, September 9 at 11:00 followed by a reception at Fircrest Golf Course.
The family would like to thank The Tacoma Lutheran Home and Hospice for their care of Dad in his last days.
