Donald Edward Wood's Obituary
Donald Edward Wood of Steilacoom WA passed away Saturday. Born in Okanogan WA to Walter and Alma Wood, he was raised on a cattle ranch with his four brothers, graduating from Okanogan High.The army sent him to Korea where he became an infantry leader and after being wounded was returned to Madigan Army Hospital where he was discharged due to disability.After completing studies at Bates Vocational School, he become a professional land surveyor and served the City of Tacoma in that capacity for thirty two years.His passion, fired by experiences in Korea, was missions. As an elder and chairman of the missions division of Lake City Community Church, he served over thirty years promoting missions and caring for missionaries.He is survived by his wife of 51 years Verna Lou Wood, his brother Louie Wood, children Wanda Hayes and Lorne Wood; grandchildren Nathan Hayes, Samuel Hayes, Hannah Hayes and Sara Wood, along with a host of other Wood family members.A memorial service will be held at Lake City Community Church Friday, Dec. 10th at 10am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that gifts should be directed to LCCC marked for the DEW fund which will be distributed to the missionaries for whom he worked so hard.
