I cherish the memories I have of Mr. Wood's (even at 45 I still can't bring myself to call him, "Don" - he was too much like another dad to me!) investment in my life. His caring concern and counsel let me know in his word-sparing fashion that I was loved and always a part of his home and familiy. He modeled to me what it means to be a godly man in the Christian community. His actions shouted louder than words ever could. I'm thankful that his twinkling eyes and firm hugs and handshakes were a special ingredient in the recipe that defines my life.
With loving respect,

Dear Verna Lou and Family:
I was a chainman on Don's City of Tacoma survey crew circa 1969. I remember Don's habit of taking "one more shot" when we were doing preliminary surveys: We chainmen and the transitman would think we had gone far enough to determine which way the water would run on the street, but the party chief was king and Don would always have us measure one more station and take another shot. I think we wanted to head to lunch early to play pinochle, but Mr. Wood had the integrity to stay out in the road until we'd put in a full morning. I held a hub (survey stake) for him to drive one time in the Titlow Beach area, and he hit my hand instead--I learned a lot from him! Dear Verna Lou and family,
Altho Don is not with us we have so many memories. He was a neighbor when we were kids and we started first grade together, and our friendship kept growing thru the years. He will be remembered for the wonderful man he was.
