Diane Martin's Obituary
Diane Lynn Lorenzo Martin
Diane Lynn Lorenzo Martin passed away on March 11, 2013 in Seattle WA surrounded by her family and friends. Born on February 1, 1954 in Tacoma to Donald and Marjorie Lorenzo, she attended Geiger Elementary, Truman Junior High, and Woodrow Wilson High School.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1 PM in the Valley Chapel of Mountain View Memorial Park and Cemetery, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
Diane graduated from Wilson High Scholl in 1972 and attended Washington State University. She earned her BS in Occupational Education in 1986 and a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management and Development in 1992.
Diane was employed at Green River Community College for 35 years, beginning in 1976. Starting as an Assistant Director of Financial Aid, she worked her way through the ranks to the top positions of Registrar, Director of Enrollment Service, and Director of Education Support Services. While at Green River, she was active in a variety of committees, including the position of Executive Vice President of the Deans Council. She also served on the Faculty Curriculum Review Committee, the Technology Center Capital Oversight Committee, the Instructional Technology Committee, and chaired the Project Coordination Team. Diane also taught a number of business courses at Green River, including Records Management, Office Administration and Professional Image.
Diane was also highly vested in community work. Most notable was her 16 year involvement in the Boy Scouts of America. She served as Den Leader for five years; was on the Executive Board of Pack 480 for four years; served as Advancement Chair for Troop 480 for six years, and held the position of Eagle Scout Coordinator for Troop 480 in 2002-2003. Both of Diane’s sons, David and Brett, earned the position of Eagle Scout, as did her two nephews, Jeff and Grant. That made her extremely proud.
Diane belonged to the Alpha Laureate Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, an international women’s service organization. She held many offices in that organization and greatly enjoyed the close friendships she formed there.
Diane is survived by her two sons, David and Brett Martin of Kent; her sisters, Carol Hukari (David) of Livermore CA and Janet Granger of Chehalis; her brother Don Lorenzo (Christine) of Tacoma; her nieces, Lori Pulichino of Westport CT, Erica Kozocas of Brentwood CA, Brianna Martin of Fife, Brittany Prall and Ariel Chapman of Tacoma; her nephews, Jeff and Grant Granger, both of Seattle, Tommy Miller of Pacifica CA, and Josh Chapman of Tacoma.
