Dennis William Adler's Obituary
Dennis William Adler was born January 25th 1937 and passed away on December 26th, 2017. He was 80 years old.
He attended Lincoln high school where he graduated in 1955, was a star football player, and received a scholarship to the University of Washington. His athletic accomplishments were many, culminating where he played as starting Center, and helped his team win their way to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, receiving a Rose Bowl ring. The game was on January 1st, 1960 against the Wisconsin Badgers. Huskies win, 44-8. At that time, the Rose Bowl was the National Championship game.
His High School class of 55' and 56' friends still gather together for coffee and it was something that he always looked forward to and he attended regularly as his health allowed.
Dennis spent 12 years as a proud and dedicated Naval reservist. He had very fond memories of his travels, the sea, and the time he served.
Dennis served on the Tacoma Police Department from 1959 to 1982, retiring as a Lieutenant. He was a great cop, proud to serve his city as a first responder. He was fair, just, and always calm and prepared for anything. His integrity as a police officer precedes him as the type of officer all law enforcement should look up to.
After retiring from the Police department, Dennis was a Bailiff for municipal court and a Judicial Assistant in Superior court for Judge Waldo Stone.
His favorite hobbies were flying, boating and fishing. He was a pilot for many years and was an aviator for the Flying Signaleers. During this time he was also a high ranking member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he served for 25 years. He was involved in many missions for homeland security post 9/11 both in the air and on the water, specifically Puget Sound.
Dennis was very involved in Boy Scouts, and served as a Scoutmaster for many years. He was also a soccer coach.
He loved to travel, and spent many years exploring the San Juan Islands on his boat with his wife of 40 years, Jane. Later in life when boating was no longer feasible, Jane and himself took up RVing and traveling the US. They greatly enjoyed escaping the PNW winters, spending time in Florida together visiting the white sand beaches, the Keys and Disney World yearly.
After Jane passed away his desire to travel didn't fade, and he continued to vacation with family and friends via cruise ships and bus tours, exploring the world.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Jane. His legacy will be carried on by his four children Cheryl Stacy, Mark Adler, Michael Adler, and Trevor Adler. He has eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Dennis Adler's memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, Washington. Any donations can be made to your favorite charity.
