Darlene Marie Emery's Obituary
Darlene Marie Emery passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 22, 2017, in Lakewood, Washington, at the age of 75.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband, David of 55 years, son, Darren Emery and daughter in-law Nan, daughter, Danielle Bryant and son in-law, Bernie, and daughter, Dawn Emery, daughter Shawna Michelsen and amazing grandchildren, Cooper, Madison, Morgan, Bailey, Jordyn, and Mia.
Darlene was born November 2, 1942, in Tacoma, Washington. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961. In 1962 she married David, her junior high school sweetheart, a teacher and swim coach. Darlene began working at Lakes High School as a secretary in 1978. She retired after 33 years of service to her Lakes students, who meant the world to her. Her husband, children, friends and students remember her as a loving, giving, kind, gentle soul who always brought a smile to everyone’s face.
Darlene, above all things was an amazing wife and loving mother. Her dedication to the family was one of commitment, love and selflessness. She made it a point to attend every swim, dive, baseball, softball and gymnastics event possible. Cooking meals morning, noon and into the late night, she made sure her family was well fed and taken care of. Her home was one that she opened up to anyone in need. She had touched so many lives. People came needing a hug, an ear to listen, a warm meal to eat or just a place of comfort. Her love and passion for animals was incredible. Over the years our mom and dad had been pet owners and care takers to all animals ranging from cats and dogs to birds, squirrels and raccoons. She had a true servant’s heart.
A “celebration of life” is scheduled for Saturday, December 2, from 2-5pm at the Lakewood Elks lodge. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Darlene’s life. In lieu of flowers the family is asking you send donations to Darlene’s favorite foundation “The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County” at www.thehumanesociety.org
The family would like to express our thanks to the love and care given by the staff at St. Claire Hospital.
Never wanting people to fuss over her, Darlene’s infamous quote “I feel fine.” Now in God’s hands we now know you truly are “Fine.” Rest in Paradise.
Please honor the life and memory of Darlene by leaving cherished memories, messages, and photos for her family on the tribute wall.
