Corazon Aquino Carlos' Obituary
Corazon Aquino Carlos, 89, of Lakewood, WA, passed away peacefully January 8, 2018. Born on November 2, 1928, in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Corazon was a US Army spouse and retired seamstress.
Corazon was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Vicente Carlos. She is survived by her daughters Erlinda Villanueva and Shirley Gascon of Lakewood, WA, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Corazon came to the Unites States in 1958 and served with her husband during assignments to Fort Hood in Killeen, TX, and Fort Lewis, in Lakewood, WA. After only a year in the US, her husband was called to duty in Europe. During the next year, she learned to read and write English, she obtained her driver’s license, and purchased a home. She went on to become a talented seamstress and later earned her citizenship.
She was well known throughout the local Filipino community for her generosity and her great cooking. After her retirement, she shared her talent for cooking on staff at the Korean Women’s Association.
Corazon will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her selflessness and generosity, her great sense of humor, and her wonderful food. She touched many hearts, lives, and stomachs! A funeral Mass will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Church in Lakewood on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 11:00 AM. The Mass will be followed by an internment at Mountain View Funeral Home at the Liberty Bell Court at 12:30 PM.
