Consuelo Munar Cables6-12-1916 - 6-18-2003Consuelo Cables, a 50-year resident of Tacoma and Lakewood, celebrated her 87th birthday on June 12, 2003, and passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2003, from complications of diabetes (kidney disease) and a heart condition.Consuelo was preceded in death by Emilio, her husband of 59 years, infant son Robert, parents Tomas Munar and Maria Padua, brothers Alfredo, Crispin, Galicano, Egmedio and Alberto, sisters Petra, Raymunda and Dolores.She is survived by her sister Maura of Waipahu, Hawaii; sons, Benjamin, Loreto (Melba), Rodolfo (Catalina), of Tacoma, Arthur (Imelda) of Las Vegas NV, and daughters Tehani of La Jolla, CA, Star (Patrick) Staeheli of Kent, Carmelita (Rufo) Augustin, and Maile (Howard) Sakumoto of Tacoma. She was extremely proud of being a grandmother of 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and special friend Juanito DeGuzman,In the early 1950Â's, the Cables family was one of three Â"originalÂ" Filipino families living in Lakewood. Consuelo hosted numerous new arrivals of military servicemen and their families from the Philippines, helping them get acquainted with the Puget Sound area. While raising her children, Consuelo worked for Knudsen Farms; NalleyÂ's Foods and the Logistics Center at Ft. Lewis. Even with a busy family-life schedule, she enjoyed fishing, camping and clam digging outings. She considered dancing a form of exercise and was never one to pass it up: she could always be seen on a dance floor, enjoying herself in a line dance.As the matriarch of a large family, she will be truly missed. On Friday, June 27, Rosary will be recited at 7 PM in the Mt. View Valley Chapel.Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 28, 2003, 10:30 AM, St. Frances Cabrini Church, Fr. Tim McKenna, Presider.
